101 on the 101
The Arts Alive Banner Project will feature 101 eclectic banners displayed on street lights in downtown Encinitas, Leucadia and the Cardiff Towne Center. The unique fine art banners are hand painted by local artists who donate their time and expertise. These colorful works of art will be displayed from February 8 to May 31.
The Downtown Encintias MainStreet Association spearheads the project, presented by the 101 Artists' Colony, Cardiff 101 Chamber of Commerce and Leucadia 101 Mainstreet. The project is sponsored in Leucadia by Surfer’s Point Resort, Encinitas by Charlie’s Foreign Car Service and in Cardiff-by-the-Sea by Cardiff Seaside Market. The event also depends on local businesses who are integral to the success of the project, such as the John Maple, Architect and Oh My Dog photography.
All 101 banners will be unveiled in a celebration from 2pm-5pm Saturday, February 7 at the Cabo Grill in Leucadia at 1950 N. Coast Hwy 101, just prior to their display on lamp posts.
The banners will be auctioned in late May at the Cardiff Seaside Market. The proceeds from the auction are split 50/50 between the artists and the three sponsoring groups. Many of the artists donate a portion of their proceeds to charitable organizations.
President of the 101 Artists Colony, Cardiff resident Danny Salzhandler says of the event "The Art's Alive Banner exhibit is truly an outdoor fine art gallery running 3 miles long"
