Lady Washington : The brig Lady Washington, the official Tall Ship Ambassador for the state of Washington, was launched in 1989. The ship, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is a full-scale replica of a tall ship which sailed in the late 18th century. The original Lady Washington was a merchant ship trading with coastal Native Americans for furs and pelts, and travelling to China for tea and porcelain.

Today, the Lady Washington, sails annually to Southern California, with a paid crew of eight, assisted by volunteers. The Lady Washington, accompanied by the Square Sail Ketch, Hawiaain Chieftan, will be docked in Oceanside until January 21, then in San Diego until January 31.

While in port enjoy a dock tour and talk to the crew, dressed in period costumes working on the ship. Many activities are available including teaching elementary age school children about 18th century sailor life, and adventure and battle cruises.

The Lady Washington has appeared in film, the most notable being Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. For more information, see www.historicalseaport.org.

Leo Carrillo Ranch : I heard that there was an interesting ranch from the 30's in Carlsbad so off to Leo Carrillo Ranch I went. I no sooner got out of the parking lot when I noticed a peacock. Wait a minute, there is a whole bunch of peafowl wandering around. Well write me off for any other images today, and that is why you might notice a high percentage of peafowl in this gallery. Thanks for stopping by.
